Site History
The Sims of Shangriquama has been on the net since the spring of 2006 so it is older than a year! Hooray! And it's completely logical, that
everything older than a year already has its own history.
It all began in April of the year 2006. I was visiting
Oydies Sims and got the idea
of creating my own site. For about a week the idea was getting ready in my head and on May 7th my first site was launched on
www.freewebs.com/mysimstown/.
That time it was nothing more than a site of two or three pages, I don't really remember anymore. There was the home-page with a small
description of what the site will be about once it grows and a page called 'Tour of Shangriquama' with a bad-looking collage of three
pictures of the sims neighborhood made in MS Paint. If I remember right, the third page was added a bit later. It was a photo album
with the pictures of some of my simfamilies.
The site grew and experienced almost everything a site must experience to be really a site - many spelling mistakes, web space and bandwidth
problems, style errors and stuff like that. Pages were added and pages were removed, there were movies, stories, polls, Sims-related
signatures and more.
Well, it happened often that I got really tired of my site's layout. First off it was a Freewebs layout which many sites already had and
secondly, you must admit it was not that pretty at all! Luckily, I wasn't the only one tired of that layout and one evening, my friend Ann
decided to give a whole new look to "The Wild House of Fat Roommates". For me it is/was the best layout possible and since I had been
learning HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language, in other words 'site coding') for several months already, I got that single page into a whole
site by cloning it and changing some snippets. For a rather great time it could only been seen by me on my computer, because I had issues
with my banner and also some other problems but once I got Paint Shop Pro I made all the required graphics and on December 6th 2006, the new
site was up and running. Back then it looked like
this.
On December 30th, Houses from Shangriquama was opened. It was the first time that the visitors could actually download more than just some
homes of the Orange family. That part of The Sims of Shangriquama hasn't been changed ever since. Sure I fixed the coding in some places,
but the visual side of it has been the same since the beginning.
The next big phase in the site's history begins on February 16th, the day Shangriquama.net was opened. My own domain. Like wow... My host,
Int2000, offers me cheap hosting with good quality. I don't have any bandwidth limits
and since buying the domain I've also never had any space problems. And as you probably already know, many new sub-sites have also been
opened since that time - Shangriquama.net ain't simply a single The Sims 2 fansite anymore, it has grown into a whole network of sites!
July 19th, two days before my trip to Romania, I decided to change the layout of Shangriquama.net. I still like the old look but that's
exactly the problem - it's old and worn. And it doesn't showcase everything the site is about. A blurry picture of Shangriquama isn't enough
when my stories also take place in Downtown and Peachwine Isle. And so, The Sims of Shangriquama goes from
this to what you see right now. It used to be the layout of Greenville, but I had to
remove the section since the Greenville neighborhood got bugged a long time ago. But it would be a pity to simply get rid of the lovely look
it had so this is how this layout was born! :D
Still, due to no internet connection, the site had to be uploaded after the trip, on Thursday, August 2nd 2007, to be exact. But it's done!!!
Always to be continued...
